Hi everyone!!!!! I am so sorry for not writing anything in such a long time. But starting now, I am really going to make an effort to post more on here because I have a lot of new articles I want to write!! I just spent an incredible month interning in NYC for a clothing company called Carlisle/Etcetera. I learned so much about the fashion world and had such an amazing time exploring the city and reuniting with friends and family. One of my favorite parts about this trip was dressing up for work every day :). I know a lot of you guys have some sort of summer internship/job, so I wanted to share some insight into what pieces worked for me. Also, a lot of the pieces I am going to talk about are perfect to take from work to play and are must haves for the summer season in general, whether you are going on vacation or even just staying home!

I am going to go through a lot of the outfits I posted on my style account (@stylewithsoco) during the trip, and highlight the key pieces of each look! Here we gooooo!

Ok, this first look was one of my favorites!! The first week in New York, it was SO hot and humid, so I had trouble deciding on outfits that were comfortable for this weather, but at the same time appropriate for work. My first summer must have piece I want to discuss is A KILLER PAIR OF NICE SHORTS. These are absolutely perfect for your summer job. They are a little bit longer than your basic cut off short, making them an appropriate length to bring in to the office. They are also a little bit thicker of a material, which makes them dressier as well. The pin stripes and bow tie in front add classy details to the look and make these shorts very easy to style with plain items. Once you are done with work, these translate perfect for just about anything else!!! You could pair these with a more low cut top and heals for a night on the town, or a nicer flowy white top and sandals for a perfect brunch day, or even with the t-shirt I'm wearing and plain white converse for a casual day of shopping. These shorts are also fabulous for travel! Comfortable and practical, but also look funky and edgy for your insta shots ;)! I am fully planning on wearing these in Europe!

Here are some links to shorts I like that are similar to this:

The shoes in this look are also one of my fave pieces of the summer. The next item is A ROCKIN PAIR OF SANDALS.

Shoes like these will add a funky edge to your office look, making you look youthful, trendy, yet professional at the same time. These ones are from Zara. Zara has SICK shoes right now. They knockoff all of the designer brands but keep the price super reasonable. They have a lot of funky styles like these. The key to a good pair of work shoes is comfort though. As much as I love to wear shoes that hurt my feet, that is not practical at all for the workplace, especially if you have to walk even a couple blocks to work. What I usually did this summer was wear sneakers for the walk and then change once I got to work. But, if you have issues with your feet hurting easily, then I wouldn't even suggest doing that. These shoes in the picture aren't too uncomfortable if you don't wear them for too long. The most comfortable sandals I've ever tried are the Eileen Fisher ones. These are a little bit more on the expensive side, but well worth it.

My favorite heels for the summer season are the mini Steve Madden heels. These are so practical; I wore them for practically every occasion. Work, going out to dinner, day time events, going out a night, even for graduation parties. The small heel makes them SO much more comfy than normal heels and is extremely classy and cute. The nude color went with EVERY outfit, but there are a lot of other colors to choose from as well.

And of course, how could I forget my favorite type of shoes: SNEAKERS!!!!! Fun sneakers are an amazing option for work with a more casual outfit or even with a cute dress or skirt to dress it down a bit. There are endless pairs of fun sneakers EVERYWHERE. These are the most versatile and easy types of shoes in my opinion! My fave brand at the time are J-Slides footwear. They have really cool higher platform sneakers for a good price.

Alright, next up is PANTS!!! Every summer internship needs to be paired with some FUNKY PAIRS OF PANTS. This style makes you look super professional and office ready, but also gives you so much freedom to express your personal style and add some flavor to your look. I got some amazing pairs of pants at Zara before my internship. (I think you are starting to see a trend with Zara haha, definitely my go-to store!!)

Let's start with jeans. In a lot of modern offices, it is appropriate to wear jeans every once in a while, especially if you can dress them up with heals and a nice top. My favorite jean trends right now are the fringed bottom jeans and embroidered jeans. The jean photo at the top is more of a casual look that I wore for daytime in NYC, but the one on the bottom I actually wore to work. I paired my embroidered jeans with stars (from Boohoo) with the Steve Madden heels I mentioned above and a nice, silk top from Zara. I am also obsessed with the bag I am holding in that photo. This is a free people tote that is the perfect size for the office to fit wallet, phone, extra pair of shoes, and even your lunch! Also, just looks great hanging on your arm as you walk through the streets. Anyways, back to jeans. You guys MUST go to Zara for jeans. They have the COOLEST styles (especially fringed ones) in all different colors; I just got an awesome pair of pink jeans! I will attach the link to some of my favorites.

The next style of pant I love, is the classic work pant. I bought a pair of checkered flare trousers from Zara for $10 on sale, and I have gotten SO much wear out of them. I wear them with a nicer, more classy top and small heels to work, or pair them with this hot pink crop top and sneakers for brunching and shopping. I love the style of bringing work-like clothes into your daily wardrobe for a cool, unique, and sophisticated look. I have also worn these pants with a deep v bodysuit for a sexier look. These are truly the perfect pant for work to play!!!

My fave pants of the summer are by far my pink flowy gaucho like pants. Remember the gaucho trend from elementary school??? Well this trend is back and better than ever, and I am absolutely LOVING it. These wide legged pants are beyond cool and classy, amazing for the office. I found these ones at Zara, and they came in so many other colors as well. I personally, will always go for the pink :). These look fab with a cool blazer/moto jacket, a fitted top, or even a flowy top/sweater tucked in. Awesome with heels, sneakers, sandals, just about anything. I love this look for vacay as well!

Next up is my personal favorite, A FABULOUS TWO PIECE OR JUMPSUIT!!!!! By far, the most compliments I got on outfits in New York were when I was wearing showstopper pieces like this!!!!!! I love making a statement with my outfits, and there is no better way to do that with a fierce jumpsuit. The floral 2 piece was my favorite purchase EVER. This an incredible look, perfect for summer!! I paired this with a white, linen blazer to make it more professional looking for work, but then took off the blazer to take it to a fun, flirty night time look. Also, what I love about this two piece set is that you can wear the top and pants separately, giving you a multitude of outfit options for every possible occasion. This white lace jumpsuit is another one of my faves!! On the day I wore it, it was a little colder in the city so I paired it with less summery details such as my silver moto jacket, and black studded heals. But, I also love this jumpsuit without any jacket and all and a fab pair of sandals. Such a cute, sweet piece that will definitely turns head and looks SO professional and trendy. I am a strong believer in having pieces like these in your closet to give you head turning looks that make you feel amazingly confident!!!

Ok, my final item that I want to discuss is the SWEET ANKLE LENGTH DRESS. I was a little hesitant to jump into this trend because long dresses can sometimes feel unflattering or matronly, but they are actually so classy and fun too if you can find the right ones. I love how girly and pretty these dresses make you feel. I love pairing them with feminine details to put together such a sweet look. My mom found some amazing long dresses at Target. They have a new "Who What Wear" collection that has some great stuff for SUCH A GOOD PRICE. My personal favorite dress I found was from a consignment store in Bellevue called Between Friends. I always find great pieces here. This dress was originally from the Gap, and is so light and easy, perfect for a hot summer day to take from work to play.

This dress is kind of a light jean material. It is SO comfy, which is perfect for a long day of work or even sightseeing on your vacations. I paired it with my little heels and this AMAZING neck scarf from Zara. I felt like a woman from the 50s and I LOVED IT. I could not get enough of this outfit. I wore it from work to a day of exploring in Soho. It was perfect for the heat and comfortable to walk around in. I love this look because it is so different and classy. It definitely turns heads on the streets and will make you feel extremely lady like, yet funky at the same time.
